Project 2: Life As A Leaf
This project made me look at writing in a completely different way. The idea of writing the text myself made me more cautious about what I could do with it. I decided to write a narrative poem from the point of view of a leaf.
The poem, Life As A Leaf, is:
In the Autumn I fall to the ground
I've changed colors but know I'm brown
With the seasons I must go
Drifting when the wind will blow
Off into the lights and sounds
I'll travel through this noisy town
I'll blow by people I do not know
They won't see me down this low
In the end I'll lay down
And wait till winter comes around
The poem is to go through the end stages of a leaves short life. How a leaf would narrate it's ending journey through the world. I wanted the reader to stop and think about all the leaves that they walk by or over when they are outside. To become more aware of their surroundings that are often just overlooked. The poem flows in a sequence from the time the leaf leaves the tree and drifts to its final resting place. The images I chose because I believed that they fit into the line of the poem that they are synced with. Simple images that could be seen anywhere during the fall, that will hopefully make the viewer take notice of the fallen leaves the next time they are walking outside. Instead of placing the text onto the images I chose to use a audio recording of the poem. I emphasized the words and lines of the poem that I wanted to be strongest and changed my tone to impart different feelings for some of the images. I added a the sounds of leaves being blown across the ground and walked on behind the narrated audio track. I wanted the sound effects to give a third dimension to the video. The viewer can see the story, hear the story, and imagine being in the atmosphere of the story with the sound effect. I chose the images from google images. The audio narration is my voice and the sound effect I got from sounddogs.com.
